Furbulous?

The Rocky Mountain Fur Con just ended. Hmmmm.   According to their site

A furry convention, also called a fur con or furry con is a gathering of members of the furry fandom. Furry conventions provide a place for fans to meet and greet, buy items such as artwork and generally hang out and have fun. Rocky Mountain Fur Con, like all furry conventions offer a range of programming, focusing on anthropomorphic art, crafts, music and literature. We also raise money for charities such as the Denver Zoo and animal rescues programs. Often, we dress up at conventions in costumes called Fursuits, which are usually representative of whatever animal we most relate to, or whatever we think will be the most fun and creative!

I'm undecided about the furry verdict. What do you think?

Post-Game Comments: Elsa Ross Show

Elsa Ross and Chez D'or put on a great fashion show at Apothecary Lounge last night.

Autumn at Elsa Ross looks verrrry promising. I was particularly smitten with the jeans and dresses.

My camera was acting a fool, so, sadly, I don't have any usable show shots. The Elsa crew are sharing some show media with me soon. Something to look forward to, dahling.

Albuquerque Fashionistas!

Hope to see you at Hotel Parq Central Thursday evening from 7 - 10 p.m. for the Elsa Ross autumn 2011 fashion preview, featuring hair and makeup by Chez D'or. Should be quite the shindig.

Weekend Wrap-Up

It was a lovely and wholesome weekend, dahling.  Happy fifth birthday to my pal, Addison. She's the boss with the hose. Get 'em, girl!

Addison's mom, event planner Sheli Armstrong, receives five stars for the fab cake.

Next, DJB and I took the dogs to the always-fantastic Mariposa Gallery in Nob Hill for their annual pet portrait fundraiser. For a mere $15 donation per pet, we received on-the-spot, one-of-a-kind portraits of Mr. Fynn and Miss Mary.

The final products are quite different. Fynn's is classic, while Mary's is straight-up cartoony.

I liken Mary's portrait to Wile E. Coyote in a sailor dress. She will blow up your world with dynamite and unceremoniously drop anvils on you, all whilst looking fabulous in festive, themed frocks.

Next, we strolled around Nob Hill Summerfest. Central was blocked off from Girard to Washington. Great music, street vendors, food, bevvies and most of the boutiques were having great sales. Check out this snazzy little number from Off Broadway. It's a funky, late 60s dress with abstract blue/green print, flared sleeves and tied belt.

I can almost guarantee this year's birthday dress will come from Off Broadway. It's a big birthday, my friend. It starts with a four and ends with an ohmygawwwd. Sigh. Fabulous. The dress MUST rule.

This little dancing diva wins Coolest Chick of the Day award. She was hoofing it like there was no tomorrow, totally solo. She was so composed and focused. I was crabby until I saw her. Then I felt lighter and happier. Thanks, girl.

How was YOUR weekend, leisure lovah?

Santa Fe Wedding Fabulousness: The Main Event

The wedding was breathtakingly gorgeous. See for yourself.

The bride, Bonnie Minkus, and groom, Jayme Holmes, are standing under a chuppah made by mother-of-the-bride, Sabra Minkus. It symbolizes the home they'll create together. The sides are left open to signify that all friends and family are welcome into their new life and home. The roof above the chuppah is embroidered with the traditional phrase, Ani L'Dodi V'Dodi Li (I Am My Beloved's and My Beloved is Mine), from the Song of Solomon

Reception: incredible. Posh as can be, yet it retained the warmth of a far more intimate scenario... well done, everyone.

Guest-list? Fabulous, of course. Here's my table roster, alone.

Not pictured: Aaron Gottlieb.

And, of course, mister man and yours truly.

No, I didn't attend the event topless; it's a strapless maxi dress, dahling! Add maxi bangs + maxi bracelet, and the result is easy, breezy, but not sleazy... in short, a good summer wedding guest dress.

Here's DJB with the happy, gorgeous couple.

Michele Meade and I nearly missed the whole Hava Nagila experience because we were chatting it up outside. Fortunately, we caught the tail end.

One of the evening's highlights: the children's impromptu cover of Lady Gaga's Born This Way. Beyond fabulous. I cried a little; that's how cool it was.

Such a lovely weekend. Hearty thanks and congratulations, Bonnie and Jayme!

Santa Fe Wedding Fabulousness: The Teaser

The wedding and reception were absolutely lovely. Five stars, unquestionably. No detail overlooked. Perfection in every way.

However, since it's brunch, then check-out, then a stop by Cochiti Lake en route home, it'll be a while before the grand extravaganza post hits the blog.

Sorry, dahling... lots of fab pics and videos later. Mimosas are beckoning. Cheers!

The Next Morning...

I woke like a shot at 5:30 a.m. Had a nightmare that an army of ghosts on horseback were chasing us around the hotel property. They should've been riding skunks. I'd like that dream script revised and on my desk in an hour.  Anyway, when I typically wake from nightmares, I'm famished. This was no exception. I staggered across the room, grabbed the to-go plate of wee cupcakes that accompanied us back to our room after our late-night dinner at the family house, then shut myself in the bathroom, so as not to wake up DJB while I scarfed down sweeties.

I eagerly peeled away the plastic wrap... too eagerly, my friends, as this is what happened:

Yes, the whole plate tumbled into the sink. At least it wasn't on the floor. Easy clean-up.

Nothing says "good morning" like a sink full o' cupcakes. Good times.

Let the games begin.

Santa Fe Wedding Trip Notes: Day One

You know when something waaaay over-the-top crazy happens and you have no choice but to either freak out in a stress rage, or you can laugh because it's simply that bizarre? Welcome to day one, dahling.

The drive was a bit tedious. People were totally driving like lunatics. Friday... rush hour... loco ABQ/SF commuters.

This is the Las Conchas wildfire burning the hell out of Los Alamos and our beloved Jemez mountain range. It is the largest fire in recorded state history, having burned 150,000 acres or 234 square miles.

Here's what's happening in Los Alamos proper. Intense.

Bishop's Lodge is lovely. As soon as I saw the croquet lawn (among my fave recreational pastimes) and sparkling pool, I knew the resort was Fabü-friendly.

Here's the view from the family's house. Outstanding.

This is where the rehearsal dinner took place. Sadly, we missed the dinner. Why?

After checking into our lovely room, Mary Poppins ate an entire Slim-Jim from the munchie basket. Ugh. Dog diarrhea nightmares flashed before my eyes. Now that's a stench. I said a little prayer and carried on. Nothing could have prepared me for the stench to come.

DJB was kind enough to take the dogs for a little evening stroll while I finished unpacking. Next thing I knew, there was a cacophony of mayhem in the hall. Fynn came racing in the room with Dj sprinting behind him. "Don't touch him!" Dj shouted. "He was sprayed by a skunk!" He wrestled Fynn out of the room and carted him outside, where the poor dog rolled in the dirt maniacally.

About three seconds later, the stench in the room was so intense that we had to flee outside, quickly. We jumped into action, held our breath and darted back inside. First, we threw open all the windows. Next, we called the kitchen. Within five minutes, we had a large container of tomato juice. Fynn was carried inside, plopped in the tub, and the tomato juice bath commenced. Rank stench. Gag-inducing.

The gracious hotel staff promptly offered us another room. We packed like our lives depended on it, gagging all the while.

Fortunately, the tomato bath worked pretty well. Our new room smells great. We hauled-ass to the rehearsal dinner house, where we were greeted by the groom, Jayme, playing a ukulele and singing whilst walking out the door. "Awesome!" I thought. "The party's still hopping!"

Nope. Only three folks were still up. No surprise, as it was 11 freakin' o'clock. Damn skunk sprayed our whole evening.

Fortunately, the awesome Mexican spread was moments from going into cold storage. We wolfed down green chile enchiladas, taquitos and oh-so-delish chile con queso in a few minutes flat. We. Were. Starving.

Now, at 1 a.m., we're finally preparing to hit the sack. Quite an evening.

Apparently, there's an entire skunk family roaming the property. Mama and babies. Dj said the one that sprayed Fynn was fairly large. We suspect it's mama. Clearly, she doesn't play. Fingers crossed our paths don't cross again.

Fortunately, throughout the whole ordeal, Dj and I managed to laugh rather than stress out. Good job, Brown. Teamwork times.

How was your Friday night?

Weekend Round-Up

Topic: Santa Fe fabulousness with DJB.

Dined with friends, then headed to Santa Fe Brewing Company for the Yo La Tengo show. Al fresco, intimate, awesome. The weather, the venue, the sound, the people... the whole package receives five stars.

After a good night's rest, we kicked around town for a while. If you've not been there recently, fair warning: they're all calling it Fanta Se now. Vendors and residents alike. My vote: thumbs-down. It's Santa Fe. Stop it. Love your city, but knock it off. Thanks in advance.

Naturally, we had to visit Cos Bar for a high-end, luxury cosmetics fix.

Lunch and cockies on the Coyote Cafe rooftop = yum.

DJB = cute.

There's more to be had, but we'll dive deeper into all that in an upcoming Fabü dedicated to Santa Fe fabulousness.

Hope the weekend's been good to you, dahling.

Andre Jackson Pride Party Update!

I jumped the gun, kids.

Andre's party at Imbibe is also a PARADE VIEWING BASH on the Imbibe rooftop! Watch the floats roll by in style, dahling. I've chosen this location as my parade viewing point for the last two years, and it's been five-star fabulous. Cocktails, festivities, comfort, shade. Highly recommend.

Doors open at 10 a.m. Get there early for primo spots.

Stay for the after-party, as that's when my crew will roll in. Be sure and give us insanely loud props as we float by on the Local iQ Fabü float! We'll be hollering back at ya'!

Pride is almost here! So excited! Total family weekend!

And the CFDA Award Winners Are...

New York City was in a fashion frenzy for last night's Council of Fashion Designers of America Fashion Awards. Anderson Cooper hosted the event at Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall.  Womenswear Designer of the Year: Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez of Proenza Schouler

Menswear Designer of the Year: Michael Bastian

Accessory Designer of the Year: Alexander Wang

The Swarovski Award for emerging talents went to Prabal Gurung for Womenswear, Robert Geller for Menswear and Eddie Borgo for Accessory Design.

Special honors included a Fashion Icon Award for Lady Gaga and a Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award for Marc Jacobs

Gaga said she knew she'd truly arrived on the fashion scene when she received a text message from Anna Wintour that she would be honored by the CFDA.

Apparently, however, Gaga thought the text was from a friend named Anna, and she replied with "Yes, bitch, we did it!."

The Vogue editor's reply: "How lovely."

Speaking of Gay Days...

Albuquerque Pride is right around the corner: June 9 - 11.  I will see you Saturday morning (June 11) at 10:30 a.m. on Central Avenue from Girard to San Pedro for the 35th (wow!) annual Pride parade.

I'll be on a float, dahling. It'll be easy to spot me; that's all I can reveal. Holla at your girl!

Post-parade, I'm celebrating Saturday night 'til the wee hours of Sunday morn at Tribal Splash at the Radisson Resort and Water Park

The entire property is exclusively reserved for 24 hours of all-inclusive entertainment events, including drag shows, water slides, specialty cocktails, swimming to disco music, hot dancers, dual wave machines + surfing lessons, laser light show, tasty buffets, DJs DeLorezo, Flo-Fader (loves!), Jesse Hutton, NYC's Joe Gauthreaux and, direct from Las Vegas, the fabulous Kristine W and her fierce back-up dancers. Once I can no longer dance, a soft bed will be steps away, as I have a room at the resort.

Helloooo?!? How much fun am I going to have!?!

Tickets are still available for Tribal Splash. Click here for more info and to purchase your party passes and rooms.

Free Advertising!

Today's extra-stupid award goes to the Florida Family Association. It's Orlando Gay Days time, which brings in millions of tourist dollars to the area each year. The FFA, an anti-gay Christian group, spent over $7,000 to fly planes over Orlando dragging giant banners that read, “Warning Gay Day at Disney" as part of their regular boycott and protest of the annual event.

Reportedly the FFA attests that because Disney Gay Day patrons do scandalous things like public kissing and dressing in drag, children will turn gay if they witness it. Bwaaahahaha!

They say protest, I say free advertising. If I was hanging around Orlando and wasn't aware it was Disney's Gay Day, then that plane went flying by, you'd best believe I'd be in line at the gates of the Magic Kingdom within the hour, because that sounds like an unquestionably grand time to me.
