Friday Fabü

This issue, I’m writing about something that might shock you: fitness. Take a moment to steady yourself. Sip some water. Take slow, deep, breaths. You OK? Good. Let’s continue.

I reiterate: I, fabulicious, have been workin’ on my fitness. No joke. They’re ice skating in Hades, dahling.

Considering the fact that 40 was rapidly approaching, I decided it was time to ditch my precious ciggies, lighten up on the vodka (and champagne … and tequila … oh, how the list goes on), finally make friends with vegetables and — gasp! — develop a fitness regime.

My plan lingered in the development stage for a few months. This was due to three reasons: 1) Sloth and I are dear, old friends, 2) I heart sugar-laden treats, and, 3) I’m not a fan of most gyms and gym people. There, I said it: Gym culture freaks me out. I don’t want to buy the gear and show up to the group sessions and chat with all the gymmies about gymness. I’m not saying it’s wrong; I’m just saying it’s not my thing.

Enter personal trainer Jonathan Rockwell, founder of The Machine Training Systems (505.573.5753). I’d heard about him from a trusted friend who shares the same slacker values and gym phobia as I. Even so, I still worried. I’d tried several gyms and several personal trainers over the years. No bueno. However, 40 was breathing down my neck, so I took the plunge one more time.

“Expect to achieve your goals,” he declared at our first meeting. “Let’s begin.”

Quote of the Day

"Kate Moss asked for a belt once, so I gave it to her, but I had to say, 'Are you sure she’ll be wearing it?' I didn’t want to see it on her maid."

Happy Lourdesmariacicconeleonday

Sheesh... that name is too long to fit on the header. Such is the price of fabulousness.

Lourdes Maria Ciccone Leon (a.k.a. Madonna's daughter) turn 15 today.

Even at this young age, Lourdes' style sense is uh-mazing. I see a very bright future. Go, Lola!

Yawn.

You know why this guy is yawning?

BECAUSE THERE ARE NO FABULOUS SCANDALS ACTIVELY HAPPENING!!!

Total yawnsville!

This dude and I are about to fall on our faces out of sheer boredom. Somebody had better do something extremely scandalous very quickly, or else it's face-plant city for me and this guy. Nobody wants that to happen; I'm sure of it. Right? Right?

I hear crickets.

Can we just get a good scandal... please?

Happy Beverlyjohnsonday

Raise your hand if you think Beverly Johnson is fabulous! All hands up? Everybody? Good. Because she is, unquestionably, fabulous. She's the first African-American woman to grace the cover of American Vogue, for crying out loud. Without here, there would be no Naomi,  Tyra, Alek, et. al.  Happy 59th, Bev. Such a class act.

How fab is the latest Google doodle featuring the interactive Gumby characters!?!

Today marks the 90th birthday of Gumby creator, Art Clokey.

Guess Who Eloped?

I'll give you a hint: DJB and I! We were married October 1 in Red River, New Mexico.

The ceremony took place on an old, covered bridge, and was officiated by the town judge, Jack Griffin (who also owns and operates the tiny town's Shamrock gas station).  The day was perfect in every single way.

Fine, fine... I'll get on with the pictures, courtesy of the fabulous Wes Naman

I'm a wife, dahling! How fabulous is that? Cheers!

With love,

Lisa VanDyke-Brown

Happy Boringashellday

Yes: BORING. AS. HELL. DAY. Have a happy one, dahling.  The birthdays today are preposterously snore-inducing. That's all I'm gonna say.

Happy Darylhallday

Darryl Hall is 65 today. Now you can start collecting those benefits, pal. Good job, rocker!

Here's the big question of the day: Do you know which one is actually Darryl Hall? No cheating, Googler! Stop it! Just guess, damnit.

How did you do? It's all right if you got it wrong... wait, no, it's so not all right --- it means you're a total LOSER!!!!

I'm only mocking you to make myself feel better, dahling. I didn't know the difference between Hall and Oates until about, ummm, yesterday. Seriously, I still screw it up. Shame on me.

Happy birthday, Mr. Hall... with your pseudo-Groucho 'stache and beady eyes. Welcome to 65, sir.

Egad! Tricked by Oates again! When will I get it right? New mantra: Hall equals ginger mullet... Hall equals ginger mullet... Hall equals ginger mullet... Hall equals ginger mullet.

I'll get you, Hall & Oates, if it's the last thing I do. Cue evil cackle!

OK... this video... the sequined devil striding across the stage at the 1:07 mark... five stars.

Happy Davidleerothday

"I used to jog but the ice cubes kept falling out of my glass." --- David Lee Roth

David + Lee + Roth = Beyond fabulous.

It's hard to believe he's 57; the man seems like he's eternally 24.

The bravado! The sass! The screams! The bulge! The incessant yammering!

We heart you, DaveKeep up the good work. Happy birthday.

I was just touched by the haiku gods! I'm compelled to create a haiku poem for David Lee right now...

David Lee Roth, sir:

You are a god in spandex.

Rock on, I say... rock.

Denver Trip Notes

Note #1: Mark Star Karaoke at 3 Kings Tavern

No trip to Denver is complete without a visit with my dear compañero, Mark Star and his ruca, Shawna. Mark is the karaoke king of Denver, dahling. We caught him this time at 3 Kings Tavern.

Were there shenanigans? Well, if mucho drinking, caterwauling and stripping down to skivvies onstage constitutes shenanigans, then, yes, there were shenanigans. Witness the video evidence. Yes, the guy on the right has his pants around his ankles.

Note #2: Antique Shopping

Found one of those jumbo-sized antique malls. Good times. Creepy stuff.

Note #3: Golden

We spent the first night in Littleton at the groom's house. However, net connection problems and a major power outage caused us to move on. Ultimately, we chose a lovely hotel in Golden, where the wedding was taking place. We checked in after dark. Woke up the next morning, opened the curtains and saw this...

Yes, we were directly across the street from the Coors brewery. Par-TAY.

Note #4: Wedding

The wedding was lovely. Met lots of great new people. Hearty congrats to Dan and Deb Cassin!
