Happy Nicksday

Stevie Nicks is 63. Huge childhood idol. When I was home alone, I'd tease my hair, take my sister's top hat from her janky-ass magic kit (sorry, Kel) and carefully perch it upon my frizzed-out mane, don my stepmother's shawl and platform wedges (sorry, Deb), then spin around in circles whilst bleating out lyrics from Fleetwood Mac's Rumours. Happy birthday, Stevie, you witchy wonder woman.

Could this be any more fabulous?!? I think not.

Still Standing

Here's Family Radio's Harold Camping, still standing (or sitting, rather) due to non-rapture.  Yesterday, he opened his door to a reporter and said he was "flabbergasted" that the rapture didn't arrive as predicted. He added that it was "a really tough weekend."

Noble effort, Mr. Camping. We applaud your vigor. So long, rapture. Bon voyage.

And, ever since I drafted the title of this post, that damn Elton John song has been stuck in my head. I'd like it to infect yours now, thankyouverymuch. I so forgot how gayer-than-gay this video is. Loves it!

Happy Cherday

Cher is 65. Perhaps she will treat herself to some fab injections or even a scalpel-related situation. I say GO, lady. Get that work done! Do what you've gotta do to stay on top. Don't ever get all Wildenstein on us, now. Just keep it simple; the basics. Your lips got a little too big for a while there, but last time the paps snapped you, they looked fine. Five stars, diva fabulosa. We heart you.

Attn: Rufus Wainwright Fans

If you're like me, you believe Rufus Wainwright's Go or Go Ahead is, truly, one of the best songs ever created. Have you heard Kaskade's mix? Here ya' go.

If you've not heard the original version, please do, immediately. It's seriously one of the things that makes life wonderful.  Here it is.

Muskrat Birthday!

Toni Tennille (pictured here with Captain) is 68 today.

Two fabulous facts:

1. She and Captain are still happily married. They live in Prescott, Arizona.

2. The Captain's real name is Daryl Dragon. Totally jealous.

Happy birthday, Toni.

Love,

Lisa Dragon

Now Disco's REALLY Dead

The Smoking Gun -- A California man who used a shotgun to blast the speaker on his son’s stereo will not be facing criminal charges, according to prosecutors. The man told cops that he destroyed the speaker because his 24-year-old son--an aspiring DJ--“was playing his ‘disco’ too loud.”

Stanislaw Jarmolowicz, 53, was arrested last week on suspicion of shooting at or into a building.

"Gaahl Hates Your Sweatpants"

I'm just gonna throw it right out there: Gaahl is gay. My day is officially made. I guess this isn't the newest news, but it sho' is news to me, hunty!

Perhaps you're familiar with Gorgoroth, one of the creepiest Norwegian death metal bands of all time. Gaahl is their former vocalist. He's the handsome gent in the middle up there. And he's gay. I'm so happy!!!!!!!!! Rob Halford, eat your heart out! There's a new metal queen in town, and her name's Gaahl, betch!

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=puwllq0fBLs&feature=related]

In this über-fab Vice interview, "Gaahl Hates Your Sweatpants," Gaahl talks fashion and boyfriends. Whoa. Never in a million years did I think I'd EVER use the phrase, "Gaahl talks fashion and boyfriends." I need to get up and do a few cartwheels. Wheeee! Happies!

Viceland.com - You remember Gaahl. He’s that skinny, long-haired Norseman we’ve featured on and off for a while now, particularly in the VBS.tv documentary True Norwegian Black Metal. He was the singer of Gorgoroth, once the scariest band in at least all of Scandinavia.

He went to prison a couple of times for violence and cases of ritualistic torture and was condemned by no less than the pope in Rome. (These things should be ringing some bells.) He’s the one who, amid impaled sheep heads and crucified models, would bellow, scream, and gargle to massive crowds as hundreds of gallons of sheep’s blood spilled all over the place. And then, in Bergen, Norway, he was crowned Gay Person of the Year in 2010. Riiiiight, that guy.

Today Gaahl is reserved, bordering on refined. A while back he was found admiring a runway show for a fashion line he co-owns, sitting front row, sipping expensive Italian red wine, and staring affectionately as his then 19-year-old boyfriend, Robin Jakobsen, skipped down the catwalk in colorful androgynous creations with funky Ibiza house music blasting from all sides. This side of Gaahl sounded interesting to us, but when we asked to reinterview him about clothes for this issue, we weren’t at all sure how interesting it might be to him. We were worried we might annoy him. But what we discovered was the earthly personification of Balder, the golden Norse god of happiness and perfection. Over three bottles of very fine wine we had the following conversation.

Vice: You seem very much at ease, happy even. In what ways do you channel the more intense side of your personality now that Gorgoroth is done? Gaahl: I’ve got my method. Ninety percent of my artistic expression is not perceptible to the world. A.M. Guffaw

It is good to start the day with laughter. Whilst opening morning email, I received a clip from that Vanderbilt brother of mine. It's the parrot singing Drowning Pool's Let the Bodies Hit the Floor. If you've seen it, fab. If you haven't, you might need to.

First, if you haven't heard the song, check this out briefly to get yourself acquainted with it. You really only need the first 22 seconds to cover what's needed to understand the parrot clip.

* Update: Due to EMI's jackassishness, please click here to watch Parrot clip via YouTube, or just click the "Watch on YouTube" link provided in the clip below.

OK, got it? Good. Now watch this.

I died. Still laughing. Soul vitamins. Thanks, bro.

It's the Girl from Ipanema's birthday!

Brazilian singer and queen of bossa nova and samba, Astrud Gilberto, celebrates her 71st year today. Watch this and listen happily.

P.S. How much do we LOVE the fact that this was televised via FabTV?

My Post-Punk Progressive Exes

Two of my exes resemble famous post-punk progressive musicians. This has become screamingly obvious to the point where I can no longer refuse it. Of course, I won't be using the exes' names. A lady never kisses and tells. If you and I happen to know each other, however, and you know the history, you'll likely be able to figure this out quite easily.

#1: Nick Cave

#2: Adam Ant

Just sayin'. Bet you guessed them already. Fun, no? I'm off to the salon, dahling. Hope you're having a splendid weekend.

Totally Stumped

Last night, a stranger asked me a completely ridiculous question that's been plaguing my thoughts all day. Who would win in a fight?

Ted Nugent

OR

Meatloaf

I'm totally stumped.

Cast your vote, please.

RIP Nate Dogg

Let's pour a bit of beer on the ground to mourn the passing of Nate Dogg (AKA Nathaniel Hale), one of rap's finest male hook singers, who died Tuesday at the age of 41 after several years of health problems. The four-time Grammy nominee was a key player in the rise of the West Coast G-Funk sound, and paramount participant in several gangsta hits.

"We lost a true legend n hip hop n rnb," Snoop Dogg tweeted. "One of my best friends n a brother to me since 1986 when I was a sophomore at poly high where we met. I love u buddy luv. U will always b wit me 4ever n a day u put the g n g funk u put the 1 n 213 n u put yo stamp on evrybdy u ever didit wit ... I miss u cuzz I am so sad but so happy I got to grow up wit u and I will c u again n heaven cuz u know d slogan. ... Winter Music Conference is in Full Effect

Last night, I received a report from Miami's annual Winter Music Conference (WMC). Unfortunately, all I could hear during the call was BOOM-BOOM-BOOM-BOOM-BOOM-hello?hello?-BOOM-BOOM-BOOM-BOOM-girl, are you there?-BOOM-BOOM-BOOM-BOOM.

So, from what I gathered, it's going well.

WMC is basically holy week for electronic music fans. With industry workshops during the day and gobs of parties at night (and well into the morning), this conference draws hundreds of thousands of electronic music lovers from around the globe.

According to the WMC site, last year's event attracted 1,909 artists and DJs, 3,763 industry delegates from 70 countries and over 100,000 event attendees for a concentrated schedule of more than 414 events, parties, seminars and workshops presented across 5 days.

I'm sure WMC is fabulous in every single way, but the hangover sounds far too massive for me to dare risk attending the event. Just sayin'.
