Saturday Night Fever

Saturday night was quite fun.  We attended a Mad Men-themed birthday party for Luis Demetrio Nolasco at Hotel Andaluz. A fine time was had by all.

I could be wrong, but I think there's a strong chance that you might absolutely love my vintage ensemble by Mr. Blackwell. The collar, cuffs and hem on the dress match the cape. Thanks to Kamille Crowley for the amazing frock.

And, yes, I got a new 'do, courtesy of the very talented Kelli Williams. That's part two of the second green hair post. The vinegar/lemon worked fairly well, but not well enough. Yes, I could've tried other things, but it was time for a change. I was more than ready, dahling.

Happy Littlerichardday

I'm so excited! It's Little Richard day! Total icon. Man, do I love me some Little Richard.

Why in the world haven't I dressed up as Little Richard for Halloween yet?

I always come up with the best Halloween costumes between, like, November and August. And I never write them down. Then October comes around and I have no clue what to wear for Halloween. This. Happens. EVERY. Year.

Am I going to change my ways and write down "Little Richard Halloween Costume" somewhere? Hell no! Why break tradition, I say? And, as a result, I'll probably spend Halloween 2012 in some lame-ass get-up like a phantom or something equally yawn-worthy.

I'm supposed to be writing about Little Richard, aren't I? Sigh.

HAPPY 79th BIRTHDAY, LITTLE R! We love you!

Friday Fabü

(I know you already know most of this, darling blog reader, but this is from Fabü in the current issue of Local iQ)

That’s right: I’m a married woman. If you recall, my beau proposed on Aug. 30, my 40th birthday. The following weekend, whilst lounging poolside at a Scottsdale resort during a Labor Day getaway, we discussed wedding ideas. The bigger they got, the less we liked them. Ultimately, we decided to quietly elope on Oct. 1.

Basically, I had three weeks to plan a wedding. Was I stressed? Yes, but not an iota as much as I would have been if it was a big, fat, frilly affair. My propensity for anxiety is high even when I’m stretched out on the couch, reading a novel; thus, tackling a big wedding is likely more than my oft-delicate nerves can endure without multiple meltdowns that would put every last horrorshow on that Bridezilla program to shame. I used to plan huge events for a living. I’ve had my fill, thankyouverymuch.

Agenda item number one: location. We wanted to marry outdoors in a rustic, picturesque locale. We chose the old bridge in Red River. Rustic: check. The leaves were turning, which made for a spectacular backdrop. Picturesque: check. The autumn chill was definitely present, but not enough to prohibit wearing a wedding gown sans parka. No parkas on your wedding day: jumbo check … wedding parkas aren’t my thing; it’s strapless or nothing for this bride, and nobody likes a nude bride, well, except for nudists … and pervs ... but let’s move on.

Powerless

We've been sans power since 6 p.m. last night.

Winds reached 88 mph.

Mother Nature does NOT play.

Thar She Blows!

Current winds: 43 mph It's howlin' out there, dahling.

No word from Shop & Stroll. Presume it's still on. Not for this girl.

Super-blustery here at the treehouse. The ponderosas are whipping around. Stuff's hitting the windows. Crazy.

Mary Poppins is NOT pleased. Moreover, she's a bit spooked. She won't get out of my lap. I'm keeping her safe from the evil wind.

If it's this loco now, I shudder to think what it's going to be like later tonight if winds do, indeed, reach the predicted 70 mph.

Morning SmackDown: Good vs. Evil

I woke up pissy. Total crab mode. NOT pleased. EVIL.

Fortunately, my buffoon of a husband soon had me laughing. GOOD.

It's windy. Checked the weather.

Partly cloudy. Damaging winds. Isolated rain and snow showers in the evening...then isolated snow showers after midnight. Lows in the lower to mid 20s. East winds 40 to 50 mph with gusts to around 70 mph.

Seriously? Tonight is Nob Hill Shop & Stroll! EVIL.

I heart Shop & Stroll. So lame! SO LAME! Wonder if they'll cancel the event? I'll look into it and let you know.

Fortunately, there's a silver lining to all of this...

Tonight, at 8 p.m., we're attending the premiere of The Dolls' holiday play, All About Christmas Eve. Weather be damned, I'm having fun tonight! GOOD!

My iQ write-up of the show:

All About Christmas Eve

8p Fri.-Sat., 2p Sun.; Dec 1-4, 8-11, 15-18

Aux Dog Theatre

3011 Monte Vista NE, 505.254.7716

$15, Thursday tickets are $10

info@auxdog.com

Nothing says “Merry Christmas” like drag queens and Norma Desmond; thus, get your padded keister to Aux Dog Theatre for the Dolls’ annual holiday play. This year, it’s All About Christmas Eve, an original play by Dolls co-founder Ken Ansloan.

God is a drag queen who sends his most trusted and fabulous angel, Norma Desmond (Sunset Boulevard), to Earth to help mousy misfit Eve by showing her a succession of Christmas Eves in her life, from sweet young thing to sordid stripper to horrid hag who will be murdered on Christmas Eve if she doesn't change her evil ways.

Will Eve ever learn the true reason for the season?  Will Norma ever get her wings and be ready for her close-up, Mr. DeMille? Will God ever find the right shade of nail polish to match his halo? Find out when you partake in this holiday tradition that is far more fabulous than fruitcake.

This torrid weather means only one thing: Cream of Wheat. So, soooo GOOD.

I'd like to thank the goods for outweighing the bads this morning.

R.I.P.

It's a double-death kind of day, dahling.

First, Patrice; now Willis the hamster.

Heartfelt condolences to my lovely and talented niece, Ella, on the loss of Willis.

He was a good hamster. He loved treats, sleeping and his exercise ball.

See you on the other side, Willis. Say hey to Django.
