Friday Fabü
In loving memory of Ms. Whitney Elizabeth Houston, let’s pay tribute to some of music’s most fabulous divas. Sometimes, their antics are so inappropriate that we want to hunt them down, use the Force to bypass security, grab the diva and give her a good ol’ fashioned spanking, because somebody should’ve done it a long time ago. Instead, we simply shake our heads and blame it on divadom.
Without further ado, Fabü presents the Whitney Houston Memorial Diva Roster. Divas are listed in random order, but I’m sure that won’t stop Madonna from sending her flying monkeys after me for giving her the fourth position. Bring it, Madge! Oops, typo. Correction: Sing it, Madge!
Mariah Carey: She has five Grammys and more number one U.S. pop hits than anyone but the Beatles. Her hotel demands include two bottles of Cristal champagne, one box of bendy straws and male-only attendants. She once had a $10,000 antique table flown in for an autograph signing. She doesn’t do stairs.
Cher: She’s come a long way since her Sonny days. This accomplished and much-adored singer/actress has a mantle filled with diverse awards, including a Grammy, Oscar and Emmy award. The top reason why Cher is among my fave divas: she requires a wig room at her shows. That’s it. I’m done. Cher rules.
Aretha Franklin: All hail the Queen of Soul! An incredibly-gifted vocalist, songwriter and pianist, ReeRee has 20 Grammy awards. Helloooo? In 1987, she became the first female artist to enter the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. She charges $25,000 cash up-front upon arrival at every show. The Motown diva also insists that any hotel room she stays in must not be above the fifth floor.
Madonna: The material girl’s feats in the Guinness World Records include The Most Successful Female Artist of All Time and The Most Costume Changes in a film (more than 300 for Evita). A Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, Madge demands a brand new toilet seat at every concert, and then it’s destroyed after she leaves. She also demands 20 cases of Kabbalah water, white drapes and white roses.

Happy Eddiemurphyday
Eddie Murphy is 56. Happy birthday, Eddie.
Yeah, Eddie Murphy's funny and all, but the real reason I put him in today's spotlight is because I wanted to watch his "Party All the Time" video feat. Rick James. Who would've known then, in 1985, that 20 years later, Charlie Murphy's True Hollywood Stories would put the Eddie Murphy/Rick James relationship into a whole new (and extra-fabulous) light?
So, without further ado, I give you "Party All the Time."

Quote of the Day
"A 53-year-old man accused of showing up at the home of a Port St. Lucie police officer who issued him a speeding ticket and telling the officer's wife he wanted to talk to the officer "man-to-man" was arrested."
Fabulisa note: Port St. Lucie is, of course, in Florida. Yeah, gotta love those Floridians.

I'm Pregnant!
I realize you might have viewed that first Ft. Myers post last week with some suspicion, as the pics revealed that I'm a little chunkerella.
Fear not, fabulista. Your girl hasn't let herself go----she has two buns in the oven. Yes, two. I'm pregnant with TWINS, dahling!
Needless to say, Mr. Brown and I are over the moon. Let the nesting begin!
So, without further ado, meet the Brownies. Up top is Baby B. Its sibling, Baby A, is reclining below. An August debut is expected.

More From the South
Lecanto was awesome. The 'rents live in Black Diamond (above), a lovely golf community. Great spending quality time with the fam. Especially great to see my grandparents. Extra especially great that I won at Crick, a board game that is totally unique to the VanDyke family. Yay, Crick!
This morning we braved the interstate once again (and, naturally, got cut off several times by drivers on cell phones), and headed to Zellwood, where DJB's family resides. Happy to report that we arrived safely. Wonderful to see the Browns, who are currently enjoying happy hour on the lanai with their son. Better get in there. Later!
Ft. Myers, Day Two
First stop: The Edison & Ford Winter Estates, featuring an historical museum, 17 acre botanical garden and the winter homes of Thomas Alva Edison and Henry Ford, all along the majestic Caloosahatchee River.
Next, we headed to St. James City on Pine Island, for an awesome dinner with friends Dinah, Rod, Susan and Bob.
The next morn, we woke up and bid adieu to Ft. Myers. Next stop: Lecanto/Inverness, a four-hour drive north, to see my family.
Ft. Myers, Day One
Sad to report that my beloved little town is now sprawling and janky, stuffed with corporate restaurants and tattoo parlors. There also appears to be a fair amount of meth here. First, we visited the Shell Factory, one of my all-time fave places here as a child.
Fortunately, excluding all the scary, nearly-toothless clerks, the Shell Factory is still pretty cool. I'd completely forgotten there was a creepy, big game room... and I'm not talking about pinball and air hockey.
See? Creepy. Regardless, it was fun. Long live the Shell Factory!
Next, we went to Ft. Myers Beach. Verdict: blah. Sprawling tourist trap. No surprise. After 32 years away, things are bound to change quite a bit.
On the way back to our hotel, we passed another childhood fave: Jungle Golf! It looked the same, only better! Did we stop and play a round? Are you kidding?
The fabulousness of Jungle Golf made up for the lameness of the beach.
One more day in Ft. Myers. Fingers crossed.
