You're Never Too Old to Run from the Po-Po

A 74-year-old man was arrested Tuesday following a police chase that ended in Port Gamble, Wash.  It all started when reports came in of a man driving erratically into oncoming traffic with his emergency flashers on. A trooper located the vehicle and performed a traffic stop. As he approached the car, the vehicle sped off. 

At one point during the lengthy, dangerous (multiple bouts of driving into oncoming traffic lanes) pursuit, the law-breakin' papaw even displayed his middle finger out the window. Take that, coppers! 

Eventually, he headed over an embankment into an old mill site, and was then airlifted to a local hospital. No word yet on his condition.

Seriously?!? Who Does This?!?

Joseph Viganola of New Jersey, that's who.  And what did he do? He started a brush fire in Scottsdale, Arizona after setting off flaming projectile fireworks on the Pinnacle Peak hiking trail.

The last thing that poor, wildfire-ravaged state needs is another fire, Mr. Viganola. If you've not noticed, it's incredibly hot, dry and windy. Knock it off! And tell all the other fireworks-obsessed people to chill out this year. This goes for those here in New Mexico, as well. 

Call me a curmudgeon, but I hope they ban fireworks this year. They're just so dangerous in ignorant hands, and conditions are scary-dry and windy. 

P.S. Is it me, or has it been windy here in Abq for, like, three months straight now? We're giving Chicago a run for its money, right here.

Glen Cambell has Alzheimer's

Country music icon Glen Campbell, 75, has revealed he is suffering from Alzheimer's disease. He was diagnosed with six months ago.  He plans to bid adieu to the music industry later this year with a series of farewell concerts. His wife of nearly 30 years, Kim, told People magazine that they were going public with the illness because his fans deserve to know the truth if he falters in his farewell concerts.

"Glen is still an awesome guitar player and singer," Kim said, "but if he flubs a lyric or gets confused on stage, I wouldn't want people to think, 'What's the matter with him? Is he drunk?'"

You rule, Glen. We love you. Thanks for everything.

Clooney's Single Again!

It was only a matter of time. Dude has repeatedly said for years that he'll never marry again.  Confirmed bachelor George Clooney, 50, and model/actress Elisabetta Canalis, 32, announced their split in the following joint statement: 

"We are not together anymore. It's very difficult and very personal and we hope everyone can respect our privacy,"

She wanted marriage and babies. Him: not so much. C'est la vie.

R.I.P.

Jackass star Ryan Dunn, 34, died in a fiery car crash this morning after his Porsche careened off a Pennsylvania highway and through a metal guardrail, then crashed and burned up in flames. Speed and alcohol may have been factors. A passenger, who hasn't been identified yet, was also killed.  St. Rip, please take care of Ryan. He was pretty damn funny. Drench him in your confetti-laden love. Yes, we know you're not dead yet, Rip, but----like I always say----you're a saint already. Comfort us in our time of need, St. Rip. We love you. We know the Jackass boys have a special place in your heart, as well. Oh, what a world! 

Kinda seemed like Ryan Dunn was the most level-headed of all the Jackass dudes. Life is, indeed, fragile and there are no guarantees. Careful out there, kids.

Well, that didn't take long.  Hef's exes, twins Karissa and Kristina Shannon, have moved back into the mansion after moving out 1.5 years ago when Hef got serious with Crystal Harris.

Weekend Round-Up

Topic: Santa Fe fabulousness with DJB. 

Dined with friends, then headed to Santa Fe Brewing Company for the Yo La Tengo show. Al fresco, intimate, awesome. The weather, the venue, the sound, the people... the whole package receives five stars. 

After a good night's rest, we kicked around town for a while. If you've not been there recently, fair warning: they're all calling it Fanta Se now. Vendors and residents alike. My vote: thumbs-down. It's Santa Fe. Stop it. Love your city, but knock it off. Thanks in advance. 

Naturally, we had to visit Cos Bar for a high-end, luxury cosmetics fix. 

Lunch and cockies on the Coyote Cafe rooftop = yum. 

DJB = cute. 

There's more to be had, but we'll dive deeper into all that in an upcoming Fabü dedicated to Santa Fe fabulousness.
