CO Springs Trip Notes 2

Denver day.

Shopping y todo.

Met the fabulous Mark Star for lunch. Amigo por vida and kraziest karaoke host ev-ah! He IS the event. Naturally, I give him several stars. Bonus points for his ruca, Shawna. Cute rock couples always have the best jackets. This is no exception.

Mary Poppins received a new frock today because she's such a bad-ass.

This wins.

Friday Fabü

“Fashion is so close in revealing a person's inner feelings and everybody seems to hate to lay claim to vanity so people tend to push it away. It's really too close to the quick of the soul.” – Stella Blum, Victorian fashion designer

Born in Tehran, Iran and raised in Philadelphia, Behnaz Sarafpour attended NYC’s Parsons School of Design. Her career began with Anne Klein, where she worked under Richard Tyler and Narciso Rodriguez. She launched her label with the fall 2001 season, and has wowed the fashion world with her trademark modern elegance ever since.

Needless to say, the show was fantastic. The clothes were clean and basic—definitely not trend-driven—featuring a primarily neutral palette of taupe, powder blue, slate and black. Notable looks included cozy knit capes, flowing gowns with matchstick-patterned lace bodices, leather and knit city dresses and tailored coats with 60s mod lines. Exquisite!

Road Trippin'

Mary Poppins and I are hitting the road in a few hours.

Destination: Colorado Springs.

We are visiting cherished friends who are in the medical business.

The medical marijuana business, to be precise. It's legal there.

Naturally, we'll provide trip notes.

Technology is the Devil!

Technology is totally kicking my ass today.

It's barely 10 a.m., and I've already sought support in the form of forums, online chat and phone calls due to problems with...

I. Am. Frustrated.

Sigh.

Breathing through it.

On a positive note, my Titanium Sapphire Oscillator is running flawlessly this morning.

So I got that goin' for me.

Dream a Little Dream

In a dream last night, I was the lucky recipient of several cat bites. I consulted some dream interpretation sites this morning. Instead of finding answers, I found some wacky-ass sh*t that wasn't remotely congruous.

From DreamMoods.com:

To dream that a cat is biting you, symbolizes the devouring female. Perhaps you are taking and taking without giving. You may be expressing some fear or frustration especially when something is not going as planned. If you dream that a cat is scratching you, then it suggests that you are feeling threatened.

And here's experienceproject.com's interpretation:

The cat is a symbol for self-deception. Not your enemies. It means you believe something that isn't true that makes you feel better. Think of a cat rubbing up against you to make you feel good. That's the kind of thought you are having. So the cat represents a sexual illusion you have about someone, feeling sorry for yourself or for others, or something to you do or believe in that just isn't true but makes you feel safer.

Whaaaat? Totally lost me after the fourth sentence. And what's the deal with sneaking the sexual illusion part in? Where the hell did that come from?

Here's a succinct offering from Mysteries24.com:

To dream the cat bites or scratches you, means you fight for justice and seek the truth.

Finally, the award for Most Fabulous Cat Bite Dream Interpretation goes to Guest from Blurtit.com:

Cats re coming to dream is not good Because Cat have no good behaviour its have full of Fear, And too much bad smell also from it's Body, If u have any doubt see one Cat's Eyes for frequently 3 mts after that u can catch my point,So cats coming in dreams not good.So avoid those kind of dreams.

WOW! That's a whole bucket of crazy right there. I heart you, Blurtit Guest. You win, dahling. Five-star fabulous, hands down.

Thanks to all the dream interpretation sites for absolutely NOTHING. Yaaaay! Complete waste of time. Never again.

And the Strangest Coincidence of the Month award goes to...

The Smashing Pumpkins! Billy Corgan announced that The Smashing Pumpkins' new bass player, Nicole Fiorentino, was one of the girls on their 1993 album, Siamese Dream... and he just found out about it!

Corgan recently tweeted:

Just found out the weirdest news: our bass player Nicole (@xocoleyf) just admitted she is one of the  girls on the cover of Siamese Dream

She said she didn't want us to know because she thought maybe we wouldn't let her be in the band

How's THAT for a strange coincidence?

Friday Fabü

I’m officially imposing a ban on urban hipster fashion. Whose cruel idea of a joke was it to festoon everything from tees to mouse pads with sparkly tigers and garish colors? If I didn’t know any better, I’d swear these togs were designed by a 10-year-old boy deep in the throes of a Ritalin-inspired doodle session. Much obliged, Mr. Audigier. Tawdry trucker hats off to you, good sir.

Before I put this rant to rest, I’d like to extend a gentle reminder to the Affliction and TapouT clothing victims: Just because you wear the stuff doesn’t mean you can fight like Georges St-Pierre; it just means you look like d-bags. … Oops. Did I write that out loud? I sure as Shiseido did. Me and my big keyboard.

Meatless Monday

Hell hath frozen over. I took the Meatless Monday pledge.

I'm starting each week on a healthy, environmentally friendly, meat-free note.

I eat too much damn meat. Over it.

After taking the pledge, I excitedly scrawled "Meatless Monday!" on my jumbo desk calendar inside each week's Monday box.

D'oh! Got a little too excited. Sunday is the new Monday, dahling. God bless correction fluid.

Now I have that wretched Bangles song stuck in my head.

It's just another meatless Mondaaaaay. Ohhh-whoa. Wish it was Sundaaaay. Ohhh-whoa. CuzthenIwouldn'thaveusedupanentirebottleofcorrectionfluiiiiiid. Ohhh-whoa.

Wild Thing

My pal, Admiral Percer, picked up this fine addition to his record collection.

Pow! How do ya' like them apples?! If this isn't off-the-charts fabulous, then I don't know what is.

NYC Trip Notes: Amigos Por Vida + Bon Voyage

Sherri is now an even hotter brunette. She and Ian hadn't previously met. Naturally, they bonded like gangbusters. Please visit her at Three of Cups Lounge in the East Village or The Trash Bar in Willamsburg/Brooklyn. She'll take good care of you.

This is Ian's best NYC pal, Justin, shown here rocking the tip of Ian's foxtail, which I broke off in a blaze of ham-handed glory.

Justin accompanied us on most of our adventures. He's deliciously irreverent, gut-bustingly hilarious, refined, sings like an angel and is easy on the eyes. Instant family. Love, love, loooove this man.

Finally, feast your eyes on my newest amigo, Erasmus. Magnificent in every single way. Hearty congrats to his lovely parents, Nancy Rawlinson and Lucas Thorpe. Well done, my friends.

"A babe in the house is a well-spring of pleasure, a messenger of peace and love, a resting place for innocence on earth, a link between angels and men."  ~ Martin Fraquhar Tupper

Visiting with Nancy and Raz just before heading to LaGuardia was a perfect ending to a perfect trip. I was so happy and mellow from awesome baby energy that I didn't stress a bit over traffic, an über-greasy driver who flirted shamelessly, airport madness and the demise of my Au Bon Pain breakfast sandwich that escaped from my hands, plopped onto my dress, then slid off the slinky fabric and onto the not-so-sparkling terminal floor — bon appétit!

And bon voyage.

Love and thanks, Ian. See you soon.

NYC Trip Notes: Beauty Bounty

Beautyphiles, prepare to swoon... This white behemoth is the GM Building, a 50-story, 705-foot office tower facing Fifth Avenue at 59th Street. It's one of the few Manhattan structures that occupies a full city block. Estee Lauder headquarters is located here.

There's a company store located in the depths of the building. It's a mythical place where you can find ridiculously-incredible (try up to 80% off, thankyouverymuch) deals on Estee Lauder products and their affiliates, such as Origins, MAC, Clinique, Bobbi Brown, Tom Ford, Ojon and more.

What's the catch? You have to be an employee. Sorry.

Guess who's an employee?

Bumble & Bumble is an Estee Lauder company, dahling.

After getting cleared by copious security, we navigated our way through the foreboding-yet-fabulous halls...

...until finally reaching the (drumroll, please) Company Store! I didn't take any pics inside the store because it seemed forbidden, but here's what it was like: Angels strummed harps and sang in perfect pitch. Gorgeous, shirtless, straight men took turns carrying my basket. Nirvana, at last!

Yeah, I know... I took it too far with the straight part. But I had you going with the harps and such, right? Riiiiiiight.

Truth: It was small and basic. Very no-nonsense. And chock full o' great products at literally unbelievable prices. I found myself living what is normally something I dream about on a very regular basis. I'm not kidding. I frequently dream that I'm walking around a beauty or apparel store with impossibly-low prices... that and another one involving a Sea World visit in which Shamu leaps out of the pool and bites me, but that's another post entirely. Anyway, here's my haul:

Event Notes: NYC Fall Fashion Week 2011

The Tent at Bryant Park is now the Theatre at Lincoln Center, home to the American Ballet Theatre and the Metropolitan Opera House. Last year, the city promised to provide a bigger, fancier location to house the event. Seems they made good on that promise. It's lovely.

Guests enter on a red carpet into the lobby, which is jam-packed with booths, swag and hype. I got suckered into posing at the Mercedes-Benz display. Ian was asked to join me, but he scampered away. Thus, the display model stood in as my date.

No, I'm not wearing a boa. It's a vest. A vest made entirely of oh-so-delicate feathers, courtesy of Ian. Speaking of that friend of mine, feast your eyes on how gorgeous and slender he looked at the show.

A bit blurry, but you get the idea: Hotness.

Here's a shot of one of the press pits. They're reviewing live feed from the shows happening in separate rooms inside the complex.

The Behnaz show was fabulous. See next post for my pics.
